Robotic Lawn Mower and Ball Picker Amaze Thousands at the Golf Industry Show
Orlando, FL, February 4, 2008 The world’s first robotic lawn mower and golf ball picker was debuted to the golf industry last week at the Golf Industry Show. The BigMow and BallPicker, maintain a 5-7 acre area and at the same time reduce the impact on the environment. They are two separate units that may be used in conjunction with each other on a driving range to robotically cut the grass and pick up the golf balls.
Whether for use on a golf course, a driving range, a military base or a college campus, BigMow and the BallPicker are proving to be a much better way to accomplish these traditionally labor intensive tasks. The battery powered units will recharge themselves when needed virtually eliminating labor costs as well as gasoline and oil consumption on the range for these jobs.
BigMow, at full capacity, is able to mow for more than 12 hours a day in a random pattern. By mowing the grass as it grows, the tiny particles that are cut decompose faster, keeping the nutrients in the soil. As a result, BigMow creates a thicker greener lawn, using fewer chemicals, ideal for the superintendents, owners and players a like. The cutting height on the BigMow ranges from ¾ inch to 3 ¾ inches and is as quiet as an electric golf cart making mowing the rough of any golf course, or the driving range great applications any time of the day or night.
The BallPicker is an ideal tool to help reduce labor as well as accidents at the driving range. The BallPicker will retrieve 250 to 300 range balls, and then return to the charging station where it dumps the balls before returning to work. The Ball Picker will pick up balls for 2.5 – 3 hours on one charge.
“This is a whole new way of thinking,” explains SofTee Automation President Tom Moore. “Superintendents see the benefit of a thicker greener course while managing fewer people, the owners see the reduction labor and fuel costs, and everyone benefits from the reduction of air, chemical and noise pollution.”
